Multimedia Tech

This week we explored the apps Screencastify and Audacity, both of which can be used to enhance teaching in the classroom. Apps such as Screencastify could be used in the classroom if all students are working individually on computers, navigating a specific website. This gives students the opportunity to replay teacher instructions if they are having a hard time keeping up. This application could also be used in case of a teacher absence; teachers could pre-record their instructions then send it to the substitute teacher so that the students know exactly what to do. Screencastify could also be used through an inquiry lens. This could be done by allowing students the opportunity to research a topic of their interest, record it using the app, and then present this to the class as a way of peer-teaching/sharing. This approach gives students the chance to explore educational technologies, while at the same time building on their autonomy and confidence.

Audacity is a podcasting app that can be downloaded to your computer. I think this is a great tool to have for the classroom, this gives students the perfect opportunity to create and explore! Wether the podcast be guided by the teacher (i.e. having them discuss a specific topic) or allowing the students to discuss the topic of their choice, students get a chance to engage with technology and create something of their own. Teachers could also facilitate a podcast and interview every student in the class, enhancing the student-teacher relationship as teachers are given the chance to connect with students one-on-one.

I would definitely recommend using both of these apps to enhance student learning and engagement!
